WESTDOC: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference
A new, Los Angeles-based three-day event, WESTDOC: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference, will take place September 14th-16th at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Santa Monica. Designed as a networking and learning experience for those working in non-fiction TV, WESTDOC is the, only conference worldwide geared towards both the documentary and reality genres. It promises a cross-section of timely seminars and panel discussions concerning the business and creative sides of the industry. Oscar-nominated producer/director Chuck Braverman and broadcast distributor Richard Propper, a former IDA (International Documentary Association) president, are jointly launching the event.&nbs p;
During the first two days attendees may select panels from either The Documentary Village or The Reality Village where issues will be explored in a hands-on environment. The third day, PitchFest, will showcase producers from both Villages pitching programs to network and development executives for potential acquisition or co-production funding. Thom Beers, founder and CEO of Original Productions, a prolific supplier of non-fiction television series and home of such cable hits as “Ax Men,” is the opening keynote guest.
