Special ‘Man v. Food’ Announcement Wednesday Night
This week, Adam heads to one of the oldest cities in America, also known as ‘Hot Dog Country’ — Hartford, CT. Hot dogs have become a local passion, which has garnered over two dozen dog joints throughout the city. Adam hits up two of the best.
First off is Woody’s; the hot dog mecca in downtown known for its posse of 9 hot dog creations. Adam tries the Deputy Dog, which is a foot-long topped with pulled pork, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce. Adam claims this is one of the best hot dogs he’s ever had!
Next, he heads to Doogie’s to try the Doogie Dog. This specialty starts with a 2-foot long, locally made frank char grilled and then served with 1/2 pound of additional toppings. Onions, peppers, chili, cheese, and of course…bacon! The owner has to use 3 buns for this dog, because a 2-foot hot dog bun just doesn’t exist. (Hey, I have a great business idea for you…It involves giant buns).
Adam’s next stop is just outside of Hartford at Ted’s Restaurant, a burger joint that does things a bit differently. They steam their burgers instead of grilling them. I had never heard of such a thing until this episode came along! Ted’s burgers are “heated to juicy perfection” in custom-made steam cabinets. I think my favorite part is the steamed white cheddar cheese that goes on top. Seriously…get yourself to Connecticut to try one of these!
For the main challenge, Adam and his partner (affectionately known as “The Great Moomsie”) head to Randy’s Wooster Street Pizza to take on the Stuffed Pizza Challenge. Over 442 two-men teams have attempted this challenge and only 2 have succeeded. That’s a 99% failure rate! So what gives with this pizza? It’s a 22″ stuffed pie weighing in at 10 pounds. Ingredients include mozzarella, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, pepperoni, ground meatballs, sausage, bacon, and 3-pounds of ricotta, romano and mozzarella cheese.
