BRAVO’s Top Chef: Texas, Wednesday 2/1 @ 10/9c

It’s down to the final five chef’testants. The competition hasn’t always been fun for the remaining chefs but this week they must please someone with a particular taste for fun: Pee-wee Herman! In this week’s quickfire challenge the chefs are tasked with making the most creative and delicious pancake for Pee-wee. And later in the elimination challenge, the chefs must overcome another obstacle…literally. The chef’testants have to get themselves, and their already cooked meals to the Alamo using only a bicycle for transportation…Will the food, and the chefs, make it there in one piece?

This week the chef’testants get a surprise guest, Adam Horowitz of the Beastie Boys. They may be excited to see Adam, but will they be excited to create a dessert out of the Beastie Boys food pantry? With everything from bacon to ravioli, these chef’s certainly have a challenge ahead, putting together a hodge podge of ingredients to make a delicious dessert. Working solo this week, the chef’s will have their chance to shine, but not all chef’s will survive the challenge. Who’s dessert will be rockin’ and who’s will get them out of the game?

The competition is really heating up and this week, the ‘Masters’ must create an elevated dish in their tried-and-true style, but the catch? They must cook everything using a microwave! How will they fare when dealing with this device? And for the Elimination Round, it’s back to high school for the chefs when they must turn to science as they participate in an “edible science fair.” Will they be able to teach the students a little something about science while whetting their palates? The remaining aspiring-masters are asked to create a hit meal for Grammy Award-winning recording artists Maroon 5. The band drops by and challenges the chefs to create a feast fit for a rock star, but, in true “Top Chef Masters”-style, it’s not that easy. Once again the tables are turned and the chefs are taken out of kitchen and brought to a surprise location to prepare their meals. Eating healthy is a challenge that people face every day. For this week’s elimination challenge, the remaining masters must prove nutritious food can still taste good when they are broken up into three teams of three to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for the cast of “The Biggest Loser”. But when all three meals, when added up, cannot exceed the daily allotment of 1200 calories a day, will they be able to make something nutritious AND delicious? Restaurant Wars delivers a major casualty on ‘Top Chef’

After nine episodes, the rivalry is over: Kenny has been sent home on “Top Chef: D.C.” Granted, Bravo hadn’t been focusing on the Kenny vs. Angelo rivalry for at least two episodes, but it is still a shock to see Kenny pack up his knives (and end the big dramatic story of this season).

In Wednesday night’s mind-numbingly boring episode of “Top Chef: D.C.,” at least we have one thing to be thankful for: Ding dong, Stephen is gone!

While his antics may have been funny, his food was too funky for any judge to enjoy. We’re wondering how he hung on for so long, but it goes to show that charm can only get you so far in this world.

‘Top Chef’ serves up less than tasty first episode

Normally on every reality TV show, judges will laud the talents of the new contestants, calling them “the best competitors they ever had” or “the toughest bunch yet.”

The seventh season of “Top Chef” … not so much.

While there are a few stand out chefs in “Top Chef: Washington D.C.,” the season opener provided few dishes to make your stomach say wow. If looks have anything to say about how a dish tastes — and normally it does — the first effort out of the kitchen looked (and probably tasted) like the gunk at the bottom of your kitchen sink.
